The Challenge
ReelBI had a bold vision: reimagine business intelligence through short-form, personalized video. Their premise was powerful because coming from the world of accounting, he knew most small business owners either ignore analytics or drown in dashboards. ReelBI's solution? Turn dry performance metrics into 90-second video insights.
But breaking into the saturated business intelligence space is no small feat. The market is dominated by enterprise players like Tableau and Power BI, while mid-market and startup-focused platforms like Jirav, Cube, and Budgyt battle fiercely on usability, forecasting, and integrations.
ReelBI needed a crisp, compelling identity.
My Approach
I was hired to:
Refine the core messaging and brand positioning.
Analyze over twenty five business intelligence and financial planning and accounting software competitors and extract ReelBI’s unique edge.
Create an intuitive website experience that could resonate with time-starved founders, solo operators, and small business teams.
Here’s how I tackled it:
1. Category Carve-Out
ReelBI didn’t fit neatly into "BI dashboards" or "FP&A suites", so we built a new category:
Video-Powered Business Intelligence.
It wasn’t just about simplifying data. It was about transforming how insights are delivered to their core creative audience and that is visually, narratively, and on-demand.
2. Positioning Through Competitive Analysis
I mapped ReelBI against:
- Traditional Business IntelligenceI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Domo).
- Enterprise Financial Planning & Accounting platforms (Anaplan, SAP Analytics Cloud, Workday Adaptive).
- And of course SMB-focused tools (Jirav, Budgyt, Cube, Vena).
This uncovered three clear differentiators:
Modality: ReelBI uses 90-second explainer videos instead of dashboards or spreadsheets.
Accessibility: No steep learning curve, no complex setup, just input metrics and receive actionable insights.
Affordability: Starting at $0, it's accessible to solopreneurs and emerging businesses, unlike enterprise tools.
3. Messaging Overhaul
I rewrote homepage headlines, pricing page copy, and software product descriptions that:
Focus on outcomes, not features.
Emphasize ease, speed, and confidence.
Replace AI-generated visuals with authentic brand storytelling.
4. Conversion-Ready Website Copy
I rebuilt the customer journey to guide users from curiosity to conversion, creating -
-Clear CTAs (Calls to Action) (“Get Your Personalized Reel”).
-Segmented plans by customer type (Beginner, SMB Owner, Growth Leader).
-FAQ-driven trust-building.
- Crowdsourced innovation messaging for beta user growth.
